German living at Oshakati psychiatric ward takes own life

Ralf Gunter Domas

A German man who lived at the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital’s psychiatric ward took his own life near Ondangwa on Friday morning, Oshana police said in a report on Saturday.

Ralf Gunter Domas (63) spent 16 months at Oshakati Intermediate Hospital despite not requiring treatment.

The ward had been Domas’ home since 22 March last year until July this year.

Domas told The Namibian at the time that he was brought to the hospital by the police.

At the time, he did not have a roof over his head.

This was after he was reportedly thrown out his parents in-law’s house by his estranged wife, Lena Amukugo.

At the time, he claimed he was thrown out of the house after he ran out of money.

Amukugo later denied these allegations saying Domas was accusing her falsely.

She also said Domas “had no money when we got married in 2013”.

“This man had nothing when we got married. Gunter was not and is still not a rich man,” she said.
