Cabinet has approved the issuing of the first “new look” identity documents (IDs) to leaders and former leaders at no cost.
The first handovers will done on a date convenient to head of state Hage Geingob, who is also one of the recipients.
Others who will be receiving the new look IDs include vice president Nangolo Mbumba, prime minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, her deputy and international relations minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and former presidents Sam Nujoma and Hifikepunye Pohamba.
This is according to a list of Cabinet resolutions released on Friday.
The new IDs, with a new layout, will be rolled out for citizens, permanent residents, permit holders and refugees in future. No date was indicated for this on the Cabinet resolution.
