WINDHOEK – Namibian international Ananias Gebhardt has signed a two-year contract with South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) outfit Baroka Football Club.
Gebhardt, who represented Namibia at the recently concluded Cosafa Cup, previously played for Jomo Cosmos in the National First Division of South Africa.
On Friday, Baroka FC unveiled 10 players ahead of the upcoming Absa Premiership season, with Gebhardt also on the list of new signings.
Speaking to Nampa on Saturday, the Namibian left-back said signing for Baroka means a lot to him, and is a step forward in his footballing career.
“I am happy that I will be playing in one of the biggest leagues in Africa, if not the biggest. It is a dream come true, and I signed a two-year contract with an option of renewal with Baroka,” he beamed.
Gebhardt added that it is not going to be easy playing in the PSL, but he will work hard to get as much game time as possible.
“I always wanted to play against the best, and the PSL is where the best is in Mzansi (RSA), with due respect to the NFD. I will keep working hard and try to be as fit as I can be, and by God’s grace, all shall fall into place.”
The Namibian said it was not an easy decision to move from Jomo Cosmos to Baroka.
“I started my professional footballing career at Ezenkosi (Jomo Cosmos), and I will always have a spot in my heart for them because I really enjoyed my two years with the club.” – Nampa
