Geared up for ‘Local But Jazz’

Leopold Vatilifa, popularly known as Dee’A, says the ‘Local But Jazz’ event aims to promote local music and shine a spotlight on Namibian jazz artists.

The event takes place at Vinyls on Saturday and features Dee’A and the Hot Pocket Band.

“When people talk about jazz, they talk about raw jazz but in this case I’m bringing jazz into a local concept, where you have a kwaito feel but the guys are playing from a jazz perspective,” Dee’A says.

He further says such an event is important because when jazz lovers come from outside the country, it is necessary to give them something local, but in a language they understand.

According to Dee’A, the event will build local artists’ confidence.

“You can actually tune the music that you do, even if it’s rough, you can tune it to fit a certain group of people,” he says.
