Gazza drops ‘Shikishiki’, with video starring Oshana governor

After years of being under the radar, Lazarus Shiimi, aka Gazza from Gazza Music Production, has released a fresh song called ‘Shikishiki’, featuring Nally.

The song, produced by DJ Dozza, was posted on social media platforms last week, and includes a music video.

The video was filmed at Oshakati, with footage from the Oshakati Open Market, by Spectrum Media Production.

It stars musician Mbuku and Oshana governor Hofni Iipinge.

Within only three days of its release, the video has garnered near 100 000 views and over 300 comments.

Gazza says ‘Shikishiki’ is about his childhood days at Oshakati.

Shikishiki was a man whom many children feared during his childhood days.

“We, as kids, heard threats of being taken to Tate Shikishiki and put in the bag he always carried with him, which was allegedly full of bees, snakes, scorpions, and all the nasty things you could imagine scaring us into behaving,” Gazza says.

“Shikishiki was a simple man from Angola and ended up at Oshakati while still a young man.

“He didn’t have his wits about him and could only survive in the area, rummaging the trash for food and surviving on it.

“But eventually he grew older and his story became clear, and we learned he wasn’t scary – no, he was kind.”

Gazza says Shikishiki was eventually taken in and cared for by his neighbouring community, got baptised, and was renamed Joshua.

“So this is just about Shikishiki,” Gazza says.

“It’s a story about the streets, a story about childhood, a story about redemption,” he says.

The song has received positive reaction from fans.

Lydia Uugwanga thinks ‘Shikishiki’ is larger than December and will last a lifetime.

Another fan, Tomas Amakali, praises Gazza for being consistent in the music sector.

Apart from the online accolades, Gazza got the crowd at the recent Kalawa Fresh Festival cooking when he first performed ‘Shikishiki’ live.
