Billboard reports that Lady Gaga has slammed Die Antwoord on Twitter over their latest music video for ‘Fatty Boom Boom’, in which the South African rappers feature a man dressed as Lady Gaga.
The video features a man dressed as Gaga, in her signature meat dress, on a visit to South Africa, and then her van is pulled over and the driver is massacred by a gang of rebels. The video then depicts a lion mauling and killing the fake Gaga. The group apparently were not impressed by being asked to open for Lady Gaga on her South African tour. During the video, the fake Gaga passed Die Antwoord and says, ‘I should get them to open for me!’Earlier this week, Gaga posted the following on her Twitter account:’i fink u freaky but you don’t have a hit. hundred thousand tickets sold in SA. #thatsmyshit’This is in reference to her upcoming shows in Johannesburg and Cape Town. She also later says:’i guess its not a good idea to tell someone you’re a fan. never mind! we get it, you’re not a little monster. WE GOT IT.’ Lady Gaga’s fans are called ‘monsters’.Die Antwoord then shot back:’lady… even tho u r ‘larger’ than us… we still cooler than u… plus we don’t have prawns in our private …’ Die Antwoord’s biggest selling song to date is ‘Enter the Ninja’ – at 40 000 – according to Nielsen SoundScan, a fraction of what Gaga achieves with one of her songs, for example ‘Poker Face’.Songs by Die Antwoord, like ‘I Fink U Freeky’ and ‘Baby’s on Fire’ have respectively had 16,7 million and 6,9 million views on YouTube. Their ‘Fatty Boom Boom’ song got 1,5 million views in two days of release on Youtube.Lady Gaga has 30 million followers on Twitter.
