PATRIOTS Futsal Club missed a great opportunity to win the Express Credit Futsal Men’s Premier Futsal League after they suffered a 6-4 defeat to the X Men on Friday.
Going into the match, the Patriots held a two-point lead over Quality Futsal Club at the top of the log and they would have secured their rst Premier League title with a victory over the X Men.
They, however, stumbled to defeat, with the result that second placed Quality could still win the league title if they win their nal match against the Swakopmund-based Selecao next weekend.
Patriots completed their 28 match- es on 67 points, while Quality are on 65 points with a match in hand.
In Friday’s match, Rolando Swartz opened the scoring for the X Men with a great side-footed ick, while Damian Walters made it 2-0, latching onto a long throughball.
Greyeno Rusberg opened the Pa- triots account after ne combination play with Silas Matheus, but Dwayne Swartz made it 3-1 to the X Men just before half-time.
Matheus reduced the de cit to 3-2 after ne combination play with Tuli Negumbo, but any hopes of a revival were soon quelled when the X Men streaked into a 6-2 lead after goals by Clayton Panizza and a brace by
Jamol Jacobs.
The Patriots managed to pull back
two goals by Treasure Kauapirura and Rusberg, but it wasn’t enough as the X Men held on for a convincing win, which now puts them seventh on the log on 48 points.
Selecao, meanwhile, had a suc- cessful weekend, collecting seven points out of a possible nine on their trip to Windhoek.
On Friday they beat Ballers FC 4-2, and on Saturday beat the X Men 4-2, and drew 3-3 against Windhoek FC.
Selecao are fth on the log on 54 points, and with three matches to play they can still move up to third position.
In other matches over the weekend,
the X Men and SBS Trucking drew 5-5 and the Mavericks beat Wind- hoek Show Society 6-2.
Group A and B of the Men’s First Division have meanwhile been completed, with the top two teams in each group gaining promotion to the Men’s Premier League.
In Group A, 7Kings FC nished on top of the log on 27 points from 11 matches to gain promotion along with City Stars FC, who nished second on 25 points.
In Group B, Minerals FC gained promotion after nishing on top with 31 points from 12 matches, while Demia FC, who still have a match in hand, have also gained promotion after nishing second on 30 points.
