Fun run and walk in Katutura

THE Model Pick ‘n Pay 3-kilometre Fun Run and Walk will be held in Katutura on Saturday.

The race has been organised by the Golden Cheetahs Athletics Club and is sponsored by Model Pick ‘n Pay for the third year running.According to race organiser Willem Andries, registrations will close today at 19h00, starting from 14h00 at the Pick ‘n Pay shop in Katutura.The race starts at 07h00 on Saturday morning.He said the registration fees for schoolchildren are N$5, while adults pay N$10.The categories at stake are for senior men and women, veterans, masters, juniors and primary schools.Andries said the aim of the event is to bring it closer to the community to compete and stay healthy.They also have an incentive of winning prizes and shopping vouchers from Pick and Pay. ‘Most of the events on the Athletics Namibia calendar are taking place in other regions and those in Khomas only take place in other suburbs except Katutura. Some community members want to take part but cannot do that because of financial constraints and transport and that is also another reason why we organise it in Katutura,’ he said.He said schools are invited to enter teams and stand a chance to win prizes and vouchers for their schools.The winners of the senior men’s and women’s categories will each get N$300, the veterans winners will pocket N$200, while the masters winners will each get N$150.The junior male and female winners will each receive N$200, while the category winners from primary schools will go home with N$150 each.Prizes will also be given to second- and third-place finishers, while in some instances, athletes who finish in sixth position will also walk away with something.
