OSHAKATI – A number of volunteer groups have already signed up to work on the Tsumeb-Oshikango railway line this year, Chairperson of the railway project committee, Ishmael Uugwanga, said yesterday.
Uugwanga, who is also the Oshana Regional Councillor for Ondangwa Constituency, told Nampa that the Oshana Regional Youth Forum would be the first group of volunteers to lend their support. They are scheduled to work on the track on February 21.Voluntary work on the project was suspended over the festive season.He said volunteer groups from the Karas Region, NamPort at Walvis Bay in the Erongo Region, and a local Roman Catholic women’s group were among those ready to put their shoulders to the wheel.Uugwanga said the recent good rains had not adversely affected construction of the railway line.The first phase of the track – from Tsumeb to Ondangwa – is expected to be completed this year or early next year.Twenty-one contracts have been awarded for the two-phase project.- NampaThey are scheduled to work on the track on February 21.
