The good, the bad and the constructive * PLEASE Namibian people, we have to talk about things which are constructive, not destructive. – Mtomas

* WHAT if technical subjects, e.g. welding, metalwork, woodwork, drawing, could be introduced at upper primary level so that when some kids fail, they can even start their own businesses with the accumulated knowledge they acquire. How about making Accounting, Business Studies, Management and Maths compulsory subjects in order to sharpen the financial intelligence of pupils. Also at primary level, learners should not use calculators, so that their minds can be trained. * NAMIBIA is basically a peaceful nation. People making hate speeches should be locked up and the key thrown away before they pollute society!* YOUR front page photo of the huge mess at MTI (Trade and Industry) is a perfect evidence of (former PS) Andrew Ndishishi’s legacy. Poor Malan Lindeque, who has to clean up …* THIS can only happen in Namibia: An unscrupulous crook is fired from a parastatal for embezzling funds but is given a lifeline by his brothers at another parastatal. What a shame!* TO KATITI (former CEO of Walvis Bay), my plan is to become a Swapo member, land a CEO job through Swapo, benefit from the parastatal, get the house, car and golden handshake. Isn’t that how we do it Namibia? Why care about the ACC?* MS RUUSA Malulu and Mr Kamwi, why are you so quiet. Please provide answers to the ex-combatants. We need answers about your negotiations with Swapo leaders and government concerning our demands.* IF alcohol is considered a drug, why can’t we ban it like all other drugs. If you say the country’s economy will be touched, then legalise all drugs and get your tax money or dirty money. I know it’s a tough one because some lawmakers seem to like alcohol. – Mujahere* RAMATEX: Lots of taxpayer’s money went into this dirty operation, causing environmental pollution, low wages and ill treatment of workers. Why are the City of Windhoek and the Government looking away while Ramatex ignores all rules and regulations? We want an answer.Crime* I JUST want to air some issues which really corrupt my whole life. Why is it that people don’t appreciate you as a woman. After all they are killing us and do what ever they want to satisfy themselves. Maybe we as women have to stand up, put our minds together and solve this matter. I am really desperate.* GONE ARE the times that the Police used to patrol in riverbeds and nearby houses. In those days you could walk or take a taxi, but now are too scared to walk and to scared to take a taxi.* CAN those roaming the streets of Windhoek in search of employment be removed and sent back to the areas of their origin. We should implement a three-month residential contract for job seekers to minimise crimes in the city.General* IT is very worrying to me to note that Constitutional rights, like the right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty, are so often forgotten, in the name of ‘allegations’. Trial-awaiting prisoners should not be punished and kept in deplorable and inhuman conditions. That is unconstitutional period! Secondly, why do our courts rely so heavily on South Africa and its judicial precedents? Too scared to uphold our Constitution in hitherto untested waters or was it until a similar case is decided in SA? Let us set the benchmark and have South Africa also rely on post-colonial Namibian judicial precedents. Judges you are being paid to uphold our Constitution. Please do just that. We are watching you. Thank you.* NOKOKURE TJIZERA’S ridiculous utterance of a land grab cannot even be compared to a six year old’s way of thinking. There will always be economical and other repercussions in these situations and only the poor will lose out.* I SUPPORT (Joe) Diescho’s message. Omashare must be changed to mashare.* I WAS impressed by the public lecture given by Professor (Joe) Diescho at Rundu. He allowed people who are conditioned, used, confused, lost, under-used and over-used to note end up losing themselves but to know and to realise that they have rights. – Ngute, Rundu* DR DIESCHO may be a brilliant philosopher and theorist. Few people want to challenge him perhaps because of his academic credentials, but will he be able to put his theories into practice if given the chance? – Mbaeva* I’M still puzzled to hear and see the Americans coming to train our soldiers. Since when did we have this type of relationship. When did we become the allies of the US? If our army needs advanced skills, training and equipment, China, Russia, Cuba, Brazil and Iran are there to help us. NOT THE AMERICANS. NDF watch out!* OPUWO is a very dirty town. Who is responsible for the cleanliness of this attractive town? I understand that the Governor only visits the town once a month. Mr Governor please organise a clean-up campaign with the residents of the town. Government houses are in a bad condition and have become kraals for goats and cattle. What is the ministry responsible for houses doing? Streets are also in a dilapidated condition.Defence offensive* TO the Ministry of Defence: Why are NDF members not benefiting from the Government’s housing allowance like all other civil servants. Is this not discrimination.* I WANT to know why the NDF soldiers, who attained qualifications such as Diplomas and Degrees especially in the army are not paid according to their qualifications? We have spent a lot of money and efforts in getting such qualifications. Why can’t the Ministry transfer us to the other civil department if they can’t afford us as uniformed personnel? Some of us were given loans by the Ministry of Education but now we can’t afford to settle them, simply because of our salaries which are too low.* I APPEAL to the Prime Minister to scrutinise the Ministry of Defence, especially on salaries adjustments. The Ministry has failed to adjust salaries of personnel according to ranking. A soldier holding the rank of a corporal gets more than a sergeant, whiles they were promoted the same day. Is that fair? From the regions* OUR honourable Councillor for the Outapi constituency told us last time that in this year we would get support to get electricity at Ondundu location. Still nothing has happened. I would like to ask the councillor when our streets are going to be tarred and the shacks opposite the PE shop removed because our houses are losing value.* THE people of Okahandja have a problem with the Gambling Guys that play matchbox with the people. They rob the people of about N$800. If you call the police, they tell you they don’t have a car to come, or that they are busy with something else.Community and consumer concerns* ILLEGAL shebeens are causing problems. The nearest town is about 50 km away.* ALL these people complaining about China’s “poor quality” products should stop. Nobody is forcing you to buy their products. Next time you should consider that it’s cheap for a reason. Do you really think that you will get the best quality for such a small amount of money.* NHE is exploiting the already poor with their high monthly payments. They build houses for N$40 00 and expect the owners to repay the houses for a period of 20 years. Whether you pay N$1 000 a month or not, you are bound by their contract. Is it not daylight robbery? Education* DOES the Minister of Education know that we college students are suffering financially? This year we didn’t get any money for ordering stationary especially.* TEACHERS studying through IOL, please raise your concerns about loan agreements and due dates of assignments!* TEACHERS should be role models for the nation. After my class, I found the security guard on duty locking my wheel. He demanded N$110 from me, when I told him I didn’t have money, he asked me for my student card which I gave him. I demanded his identification. He only told me Haufiku. I surrendered my student card because I wanted my car unlocked, but for the Polytechnic to give a security guard the authority to demand money right away, is a clear act of squeezing money out of us. For all simple mistakes, you are fined money at the Polytechnic. Where is it indicated in their rules that I am liable to pay those unknown securities. Why not debit my student account as you do with library fines?Vision 2030* PRESIDENT Pohamba, the nation has spoken. Stop running around with Vision 2030, come to the Katutura hospital unannounced. Go to the Katutura holding cells to see for yourself. Play the role of a son. Do you honestly not see a need for one more Unam, Sir?* VISION 2030 under our Government civil servants will transform our infrastructure into world’s biggest RUBBISH DUMP.* KEEP the qualified and competent ones (govt officials), sack those who aren’t and hire qualified and competent people. We won’t meet Vision 2030 with politically correct incompetent people.NBC* IF NBC TV still wants to keep its slogan ‘No better companion’ active, then it better start right away. There are too many news programmes on NBC TV compared to entertainment ones. I really don’t see the reason for paying for a TV licence if all I can view are long boring programmes.* Mr Bob Kandetu, I’m a concerned TV licence payer, but it’s been over six months without TV reception.
