• WALTER KARIKO and NETUMBO NEKOMBAIT has been six years since comedian Mark Kariahuaa started in the industry and he has no plans to step back any time soon. After an eight month hiatus, Kariahuua is returning to the stage with his new one-man show ‘Fresh Prince of Okakarara Reloaded’ at the National Theatre of Namibia on Friday, 9 June.
This time, the show promises to be even bigger and better.
Thanks to the success of his previous show, Kariahuaa promises that the “show will continue from the previous one and will speak about politics, modern relationships, the social indifferences and what’s happening in my life”.
The entrepreneur, model, radio presenter and brand ambassador said “telling jokes is the way we live, the way we breathe and it’s real life”.
Speaking to , Kariahuaa, said that although he has achieved a lot, he still has room to improve.
“I know I have a long way to go to accomplish all my dreams and I am not oblivious to the fact that I need to work harder and be funnier to reach the goals I have set for myself. But for now, it’s all about baby steps and not biting off more then I can chew. Can you imagine if I choke?”
Last Comic Standing 2016 runner-up Dirty Mike will be the opening act.
“He is a man who I respect and who definitely brings something unique to the table all the time, so I’m glad to have him perform,” Kariahuaa said.
Comedians are supported by society, he feels. “We really are the voice of the voiceless. A lot of people might not get it, but comedy is a distinct niche and not everyone will understand what it is but it’s our job to push the envelope and tell our authentic stories. That’s why I have this show titled ‘Fresh Prince of Okakarara’ because we are telling our own stories. It’s very raw and Namibian.”
Kariahuaa also mentioned that he is inspired by preachers. “I sometimes go to church for inspiration. It’s such an art engaging with this group of people and I’ve always been fascinated by how pastors have the ability to make an entire congregation keep quiet and listen to every word they say. It’s magic. That’s why I respect stand-up and I really don’t take it for granted. I am fully aware of the power we have when we are up on that stage.”
Promising an exciting Friday evening, you can catch ‘The Fresh Prince Okakarara’ in action at 18h30 for 19h00, when he will explore the interesting life of a black millennial in Namibia.
Tickets are available at Computicket or his website, markkariahuaa.com.
