French continue tradition of supporting health in North

THE French government, through its embassy in Namibia, last week donated equipment worth N$476 000 to the Ministry of Health and Social Services.

It includes 25 television sets and video recorders to be used at ante-natal clinics in the four northern regions, mosquito nets for pregnant women at the Oshakati State Hospital and information material for the regional primary health care programme. At the handing-over ceremony at the Oshakati State Hospital, the French Ambassador to Namibia, Phillippe Perrier de la Bathie, said his government has supported public health programmes in the North since the early 1990s, with special emphasis on primary health care and fighting HIV-AIDS.Last year, the French government donated medical equipment and anti-retroviral drugs worth N$900 000 to the Oshakati State Hospital.This year’s assistance totals N$2 million, including information material, computer equipment, community training programmes and direct financial support for the Health Directorate.The Director for the North West Health Directorate, Dr Naftali Hamata, and the Governor of the Oshana Region, Klemens Kashuupulwa, thanked the French government for its support and said the equipment would be put to good use.At the handing-over ceremony at the Oshakati State Hospital, the French Ambassador to Namibia, Phillippe Perrier de la Bathie, said his government has supported public health programmes in the North since the early 1990s, with special emphasis on primary health care and fighting HIV-AIDS.Last year, the French government donated medical equipment and anti-retroviral drugs worth N$900 000 to the Oshakati State Hospital.This year’s assistance totals N$2 million, including information material, computer equipment, community training programmes and direct financial support for the Health Directorate.The Director for the North West Health Directorate, Dr Naftali Hamata, and the Governor of the Oshana Region, Klemens Kashuupulwa, thanked the French government for its support and said the equipment would be put to good use.
