France raps EC

PARIS – France yesterday repeated its criticism of the European Commission’s negotiating position at WTO trade talks, charging that commission proposals on farm subsidies had been put forward without proper consultation with EU member states.

The renewed expression of French displeasure, first heard last week, came a day before a special meeting of European Union foreign ministers on the trade talks. Proposals on farm trade advanced by the commission had been made “without prior consultation with member states” and could “aggravate” the situation in certain “very sensitive” agricultural sectors, French foreign ministry Jean-Baptiste Mattei said.”France is particularly concerned about access to agricultural markets, a matter crucial for the future of our producers.”- Nampa-AFPProposals on farm trade advanced by the commission had been made “without prior consultation with member states” and could “aggravate” the situation in certain “very sensitive” agricultural sectors, French foreign ministry Jean-Baptiste Mattei said.”France is particularly concerned about access to agricultural markets, a matter crucial for the future of our producers.”- Nampa-AFP
