Former Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) Lüderitz councillor and mayor Phil Balhao has joined the Landless People’s Movement (LPM).
Balhao resigned as both mayor and member of the IPC last week.
He confirmed to The Namibian on Tuesday that he had indeed joined the LPM.
“Yes, it’s true. They have made me the offer, and after much contemplation, I decided to accept the honour to possibly serve the community further,” he said.
Earlier on Tuesday, LPM councillor Annemarie Hartzenberg posted the announcement on social media, inviting the public to “a special press conference and media briefing”.
“We officially welcome Mr Phil Balhao – former mayor of Lüderitz and ex-IPC member – to the LPM family as our principal member for the upcoming local authority elections this November!” she wrote.
