Former first lady Geingos urges youth to vote for the right leaders

Former first lady Monica Geingos has urged the youth to vote for leaders that not only make promises but deliver real impact.

Speaking at the launch of the electoral civic education engagement in Windhoek on Tuesday, Geingos said the power of voting the necessary leaders is in the youth’s hands because voting is personal.

She urged the youth to vote wisely and for the right leaders that will make an impact in their lives.

“Your vote is your plan. It is your most powerful plan, to move from being a critique on the sideline to being an architect of your community’s future,” she said.

She said voting is about choosing the leaders that will improve sanitation, pick up uncollected garbage, and provide water and streetlights in the communities.

“By voting you hire a manager for your everyday life and to hire wisely you need to be an educated employer,” she said.

She noted that most young people are allergic to hypocrisy and become disillusioned when leaders make promises and disappear.

She encouraged them to appoint leaders that do not make empty promises.

“There must be a plan. The young activists rise up and articulate your frustrations and make promises of change, get elected and start to change. They begin to sound like the people they want to replace,” she said.
