Newly appointed Erongo governor Natalia /Goagoses says she will work to ensure that no one in her region goes hungry.

She said this as she was officially welcomed at a Swapo gathering on Friday night, where party representatives hailed her appointment and pledged full support towards her mandate to eradicate poverty and unify the region.

Speaking during the occasion at Swakopmund, /Goagoses said she was humbled by president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah’s decision to appoint her, noting that among the over three million Namibians, she was chosen to represent the highest office in the region.

“Erongo is too rich for anyone to be poor. From the day I took office, my task was clear; ensure that no one in this region goes hungry,” she said.

/Goagoses, who was Erongo’s chief regional officer until 2017, committed to addressing inequality by working closely with all stakeholders, including traditional authorities, regional and local councils, and the business community.

“Within my first 100 days in office, I will ensure unity prevails first within the party, then across the region. No one shall be left behind, willingly or unwillingly, I know how to bring everyone on board,” she said.

Swapo deputy secretary general Uahekua Herunga echoed the importance of the governor’s appointment.

“When a parent assigns responsibilities to their children, the most important task is given to the sharpest child. The president, with over three million citizens to choose from, selected her to lead a region that holds the economy of the country in its hands,” he said.

He thanked party members and leaders for swiftly gathering support and urged continued unity and transparency to ensure an attractive investment environment in the region.

Swapo Erongo regional coordinator Daniel Muhuura described the appointment as historic and symbolic.

“Tonight, we celebrate the first-ever female governor of this mighty region. After electing a female president, Namibia is showing the world that the future is indeed female,” he said.

He added that by virtue of her role,

/Goagoses is also an ex-officio member of the Swapo regional executive committee and has the full backing of the party as she embarks on her leadership journey.
