FNB Namibia cautions CashPlus agents over extra money charges

First National Bank Namibia (FNB) has cautioned all CashPlus agents against charging customers extra fees for cash withdrawals or deposits.

In a statement issued last Thursday, the bank says it had noted concerns about agents imposing extra charges or conditions before transactions are processed, adding that such practices are not allowed.

FNB says CashPlus was introduced to improve access to banking services, particularly in areas with limited bank branches.

According to the statement, agents are paid commissions directly by the bank and may not charge customers any further fees.

FNB Namibia transact pillar head Rivan Meyer says CashPlus was designed to make everyday banking accessible and affordable.

“We encourage all CashPlus agents to familiarise themselves with both the requirements and the purpose of the CashPlus agreement,” Meyer says.

The bank says agents must process transactions fairly and may not impose conditions such as compulsory purchases.

FNB Namibia says it is engaging with CashPlus agents to reinforce the terms of the CashPlus agreement.

Customers who need clarity on CashPlus transactions are advised to contact the bank’s customer service line.
