FNB Classic Clashes return

FNB Classic Clashes return

FNB moved into top gear with the roll-out of the second edition of the FNB Classic Clashes Schools sport programme.

‘The project is aimed at school-going youth to identify the cream of the crop to further develop and mould into formidable sportsmen and women for Namibia at international football, rugby and netball arenas,’ said FNB Group communications manager, Cassius Moetie.
‘FNB this year invested huge sums of money into five NPL clubs to develop and intensify the speedy growth of local footballers and export excellent players to bigger world leagues,’ he said.
The schools in this year’s Classic Clashes are from Windhoek, Rehoboth, Swakopmund, Walvis Bay, Keetmanshoop, Mariental, Grootfontein, Outjo, Stampriet, and the Oshana, Omusati, Oshikoto and Ohangwena Regions.
In total, there will be 17 FNB Classic Clashes matches of which eight are football, eight rugby and one netball. Each winner from the three categories will receive a floating trophy and medals.
Moetie said the FNB Classic Clashes aim to field traditional rival schools to compete in football, rugby and netball.
‘We believe that the school rivalry will spill over to the academic field and hopefully improve the Grade 10 and Grade 12 pass rates at our schools,’ he added.
‘These events require fitness and discipline. They demand sportsmanship and respect for the laws of football, rugby and netball. So our advice is keep your cool and composure all the time, this is what makes you a great sportsman or woman,’ he stated.
‘For the sport enthusiasts and parents out there, your favourite school team relies heavily on your support.
‘The FNB Classic Clashes are not just about sport, it’s a communion of learners, parents and the school authorities for all to have fun, like the FNB Classic Clashes did last year,’ Moetie concluded.
