FNB appoints new CEO

TJIPENANDJAMBI KUHANGAFIRST National Bank (FNB) has announced the appointment of Erwin Tjipuka as the new chief executive officer, effective from 1 April 2019.

Sarel van Zyl will, however, remain the CEO of the FirstRand Namibia Group, under which FNB falls.

Tjipuka said he is delighted to join the company, and is looking forward to driving development and executing the corporate strategy of the institution, going forward.

“In addition to the company’s core business, we intend to devote significant time and effort to pursuing new and innovative opportunities that have tremendous opportunity for value creation for both our customers and staff,” he added.

Van Zyl said they believe the bank is well-positioned to capitalise during these tough economic conditions, and they are looking forward to Tjipuka’s leadership to grow the business.

In a media statement released yesterday, Elzita Beukes, communications manager at FirstRand Namibia, said Tjipuka is the managing director at Deloitte Namibia, which is no stranger to FNB.

He was the bank’s chief financial officer from 2008 to 2012.

Tjipuka holds a master’s degree in business administration from the Maastricht School of Management in The Netherlands, “as well as a bachelor of commerce from the University of Namibia, and a post-graduate diploma in accountancy from the University of Cape Town,” she said.

Beukes noted that Tjipuka has over 20 years of professional experience in Namibia, and has served both private and public sector clients in his role as audit partner.

He was head of the Namibian advisory department, working closely in business management and business transformation.

“His years of experience are split between time in the audit profession and in senior financial roles in the financial sector” she continued.
