Five trial-awaiting prisoners escape

FIVE trial-awaiting prisoners escaped from the Keetmanshoop Police cells after sawing through security bars during the early hours of Thursday.

Karas Regional Commander Josephat Abel yesterday confirmed the jailbreak. He said that on Saturday the Police had captured two of the escapees.Abel identified the two re-arrested men as Hendrik Booysen (30) and Jakobus Hendriks (28).The duo face charges of attempted rape and murder.The five men allegedly smuggled a saw into the cells, which are being renovated.It is not known how the saw was smuggled into the cells.Abel identified the three men still at large as Niklaas Kooper (21), Dawid Smith and Niklaas Goliath.They all face charges of stock theft.Abel said he was confident that the trio would soon be rearrested.He said that on Saturday the Police had captured two of the escapees.Abel identified the two re-arrested men as Hendrik Booysen (30) and Jakobus Hendriks (28).The duo face charges of attempted rape and murder.The five men allegedly smuggled a saw into the cells, which are being renovated.It is not known how the saw was smuggled into the cells.Abel identified the three men still at large as Niklaas Kooper (21), Dawid Smith and Niklaas Goliath.They all face charges of stock theft.Abel said he was confident that the trio would soon be rearrested.
