Five housebreakings leave property worth over N$230 000 stolen

The police are investigating five housebreaking and theft cases reported over the weekend in the Kavango West, Erongo, Hardap and Oshana regions, with property valued at more than N$230 000 stolen.

Police spokesperson deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi says the incidents were recorded between 12 and 17 January, and investigations are continuing.

In the Kavango West region, a shebeen at Karangana village in Bunya constituency was broken into during the early hours of Friday.

Shikwambi says an unknown suspect used an unknown object to break five padlocks at Musese shebeen before stealing property valued at N$2 560.

“No recovery has been made and no suspect has been arrested yet,” she adds.

In the Erongo region, one housebreaking case was reported at Eros Street, South Dune, Henties Bay, between 00h30 and 02h00 on Friday. The suspect gained entry through a small bathroom window and stole two iPhone 17 Pro Max devices, cash and earrings valued at N$91 050.

“No arrest has been made and the stolen items have not yet been recovered,” Shikwambi says.

In the Hardap region, a Namibian man (19) was arrested in connection with a housebreaking incident reported at Ombili location at Mariental at around 04h30 on Saturday. Shikwambi says the suspect allegedly used an unknown object to open the door and stole an Apple iPad cellphone valued at N$18 000.

“The suspect was arrested, but the stolen property has not yet been recovered,” she says.

Two housebreaking cases were also reported at Ongwediva. In the first case, a house was broken into between 12 and 16 January while the owner was away.

The suspects allegedly smashed a sitting-room window to gain entry and stole household and personal items, including a Samsung monitor, HP laptop, clothing, perfume and an audio box, valued at N$24 800.

“No arrest and no recovery have been made,” Shikwambi says.

In the second Ongwediva case, a house was broken into between 1 and 16 January after the owner left on New Year’s Eve.

Upon returning on 16 January, the complainant and his father found the door open, with no sign of forced entry. Stolen items include four beds, bed sheets, four mini freezers, five televisions and two microwaves, valued at N$93 900.

“The suspect in this matter is known to the police but has not yet been arrested,” Shikwambi adds.

Police investigations in all five cases are continuing.
