Five Hamas militants killed in Israeli offensive

GAZA CITY – Five militants from the governing movement Hamas were killed as Israel pounded the Gaza Strip with fresh air strikes and launched a new ground operation yesterday as part of a two-month offensive.

By waging its Summer Rains assault, in which more than 200 Palestinians have been killed since late June, the Israeli military says it is working to secure the release of a conscript soldier abducted by Hamas and other militants.
