Five family members died in a car accident on the B1 road between Tsumeb and Oshivelo in the Oshikoto region on Tuesday.
National police spokesperson deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi on Tuesday said the incident took place at around 01h00.
“It is alleged that the driver of a white sedan was travelling from Walvis Bay to Ondangwa, and lost control of the vehicle about 40km from Oshivelo. The vehicle left the road and overturned,” Shikwambi said.
The vehicle had eight occupants, she said.
Shikwambi said four died at the scene, one at the hospital and the remaining three were injured and taken to Tsumeb State Hospital.
The deceased were identified as driver Magdalena Ruanda (58), Martha Samuel (47), Reinhold Ankambo (18), Elizabeth Ruanda (5), and Bravo Simson (12).
“The deceased’s bodies were taken to Omuthiya police mortuary. Their next of kin have already informed,” Shikwambi said.
