Five ‘Christmas babies’ were born at Katima Mulilo District Hospital on Christmas Day.
Sister Emely Chidolo on Friday said the first Christmas baby, a baby girl, was delivered at 02h15 weighing 2.78kg, followed by a baby boy weighing 3.15kg delivered via C-section at 08h23.
Other babies delivered on Thursday were at 16h35 – a baby boy weighing 3.13kg, a girl weighing 3.15kg delivered at 18h30 and the largest baby, a girl, weighing 3.9kg who arrived at 21h00.
“The mothers and their babies are doing just fine thus far. They were all normal deliveries except for one C-section,” said Chidolo.
A first-time mother, Emelia Kachelo (19), says she was happy she gave birth on 25 December, especially given the fact that her newborn baby boy will share a birthday with his grandmother, Sheras Kachelo (44).
“I’m happy I made it. The doctors and nurses were so helpful and before I delivered, I had placed everything in God’s hands and more importantly is that my son is okay and he will share a birthday with his grandmother,” she says.
In 2024, 10 Christmas babies were delivered at Katima Mulilo District Hospital in the Zambezi region, with the largest one weighing 3.5kg.
