ONGWEDIVA – Fisheries and Marine Resources Deputy Minister has encouraged young people to steer the development of aquaculture to help create jobs for themselves and to contribute to food security.

Kilus Nguvauva said this while addressing the community of Epangu in the Ogongo Constituency of the Omusati Region at the weekend. Nguvauva said it was the wish of his ministry that the youth should be prepared to meet the challenges of aquaculture in order to alleviate poverty.”We have the resources and there is no reason why we should go hungry and beg for food,” said Nguvauva. He further encouraged the youth to start looking at studying aquaculture, especially by using the Kamutjonga Inland Fisheries Research Institute that is being established in the Kavango Region.Nguvauva believes Namibia’s aquaculture sector would improve job creation, as freshwater aquaculture requires broad community participation.According to him, Namibia would face a serious risk of failure if active youth participation in all development spheres of the society was not encouraged. At the same occasion, Nguvauva reiterated that the Government, through his ministry, was ready to give the necessary technical assistance and guidance to those who are ready to venture into aquaculture. The Epangu community invited Nguvauva to address them on the National Policy on Aquaculture, his ministry’s position on youth unemployment and how to build confidence in communities in the wake of Social Security Commission (SSC)/Avid and Offshore Development Company (ODC) scandals.-NampaNguvauva said it was the wish of his ministry that the youth should be prepared to meet the challenges of aquaculture in order to alleviate poverty.”We have the resources and there is no reason why we should go hungry and beg for food,” said Nguvauva. The Epangu community invited Nguvauva to address them on the National Policy on Aquaculture, his ministry’s position on youth unemployment and how to build confidence in communities in the wake of Social Security Commission (SSC)/Avid and Offshore Development Company (ODC) scandals.-Nampa
