A woman burned to death on Thursday after four houses were set ablaze at Komsberg farm at Ariamsvlei.

Ermilinda Hatzkin (37) was in one of two houses which were occupied by people, however, all four houses have been destroyed.

According to national police spokesperson deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, the fire started between 21h00 and 22h00.

“The fire was caused by a burning candle, which set a body spray bottle alight, spreading the fire further,” she says.

Hatzkin was a seasonal worker at Komsberg grape farm.

She is survived by her nine-month-old daughter, who sustained burn wounds, and her condition is described as stable after being hospitalised.

Forensic investigations have been launched to determine the cause of the fire.

Another fire incident has been reported at the MegaBuild store at Lüderitz on Friday.

This was allegedly due to an electrical fault.

It is alleged that the fire started in one of the flats adjoining the store.

Various properties have been affected, and no injuries have been reported.

Forensic investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
