A FIRE gutted an OK Furniture store in the Metlife Plaza at Walvis Bay on Monday, causing damage and destroying merchandise estimated to be worth millions of Namibia dollars.
The fire that broke out late in the afternoon took the Walvis Bay fire brigade about an hour to put out.
The fire brigade was apparently called an hour after the flames had ripped through the shop, shattering glass and consuming nearly all the furniture and household merchandise.
No one was injured, and the fire did not spread through the rest of the Metlife Plaza in which several shops are situated.
Last month, a Fashion World clothing outlet just a few blocks from this plaza also burned down.
Although the community suspect arson, the Walvis Bay fire department said they were still investigating the cause of the fire.
Police sources said they were also still investigating.
Calls to OK Furniture Namibia in Windhoek went unanswered.
