Find Your Purpose

Two weeks ago, I had the privilege of speaking at an event titled ‘Sip and Connect’ in the north.

The energy in the room was unlike anything I had experienced before. The audience was one of the most engaging and inspiring I have ever come across. People weren’t just sitting there, they were present, nodding, responding and connecting with every word from the speakers on stage.

The event brought together a variety of voices, each covering a different but equally powerful topic: the role of fathers, the importance of health, living with purpose, and the power of God.

It was a beautiful blend of personal stories, practical insights and spiritual truths like different threads being woven into a single meaningful tapestry. My own session focused on purposeful living; living with intention, clarity and direction.

I spoke about the importance of knowing your WHY – that inner reason that fuels your actions and always keeps the end in mind.

For a fact, everyone is extraordinary in one way or another. Sometimes that extraordinariness is hidden, sometimes it’s obvious, and sometimes it only reveals itself after years of living.

The question is: How do you find your purpose? Often, it is something you naturally enjoy doing, something that feels almost effortless because it aligns with your natural strengths. The fascinating thing about purpose is that it’s not bound to a timeline. Some people discover it early in life, others much later. Some spend decades searching and still only stumble upon it unexpectedly. And yes, some sadly leave this world without ever uncovering it.

That mystery is what makes the journey so personal and unique. Here is another thing: purpose is rarely just about you. More often than not, it’s about the impact you have on others. The ripple effects your actions create in someone else’s life, that’s where the power lies. Of course, not all purposes are positive. Some people, sadly, seem driven to harm, destroy or take.

But even that reminds us why it’s so important for those with good intentions to live their purpose boldly and unapologetically.

My own purpose feels like a strange one. I’m still not 100% certain, but I believe it’s to connect with people through different angles – speaking, writing and demonstrating ideas on various topics. That’s why I write. That’s why I speak. It’s about engagement, understanding and creating bridges between perspectives.

Purpose is deep, and it’s often spiritual. It requires introspection and honesty with yourself. You have to dig beneath the surface, to listen to that quiet voice inside you that points you towards meaning.

Another strange thing about purpose is that you can’t truly discover it unless you are willing to be yourself. If you are caught in an identity crisis constantly trying to be someone you are not, living up to other people’s expectations or shaping yourself to fit into someone else’s story, then your purpose will always feel blurry and out of reach.

Purpose requires authenticity. It’s like a key that only fits the lock of your true self. The more you pretend, the more you wear masks, the more you hide behind roles or images that aren’t yours, the further away you move from the clarity you need to recognise it. Because the truth is, your purpose was never designed for a false version of you. It was meant for the real you, the one you might still be getting to know. And when you finally embrace that person, you’ll be surprised how naturally your purpose starts to make sense.

If you are fortunate enough to discover it, live it fully. Don’t just tiptoe around your purpose, step into it with courage and intention.

The world doesn’t need more people drifting through life, merely existing from one day to the next. It needs more people who are fully awake, grounded in their reason for being here, and bold enough to pursue it even when the path is uncertain.

When you live with that kind of clarity, you not only change your own life, you create ripples that inspire others to rise, to dream, and to live with meaning, too.
