Final suspect in gruesome Katutura killing hands himself over

Khomas police spokesperson Silas Shipandeni has confirmed that the wanted suspect, who had been on the run after allegedly killing Patrick Hawala Hamupunda – also known as Waka, turned himself in to the police at Windhoek yesterday at around 10h00.

“It’s not yet certain when exactly he will appear before the court. However, I’m equally informed that he might appear today or, at the latest, by Wednesday,” he said.

The suspect, Wilhelm ‘Lavas’ Modestus, is one of the six suspects in the murder, five of whom appeared in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court last week.

The other suspects are Lukas ‘Big Show’ Nghishekwa, Festus ‘Vuxxa’ Nehemia, Kleofas Amutenya, Lukas Andreas, and Armani Mvuti.

State prosecutor Tatelo Lusebani requested that the case be postponed to 28 September.

The Namibian recently reported that Hamupunda was allegedly attacked by the suspects in Mungunda Street after a deal went wrong.

According to an eyewitness, the suspects searched the rental rooms at the premises and found Waka in one of them the day of the murder.

A dispute allegedly ensued, resulting in the suspects stabbing and shooting Waka.

According to a source, the suspects had been involved in an earlier robbery that didn’t go according to plan.

“Waka was feared, and they, the suspects, were known as the Lovers and Big Show Boys from Hakahana, with him being the leader,” the source revealed.
