AS a 24-year old young Namibian citizen, for years I’ve sat back and watched as the government of the day got away with murder, in terms of corruption, favouritism, tribalism, racism, and the elite who are the most involved in these twisted deals simply turn a blind eye to those in need as they live comfortably on our money. Yes, we are a nation who is quick to see fault and complain about it, but weeks or months later, we simply sweep everything under the carpet as we are not strong enough to fight for what we believe in.
To make matters worse, the people in power could not be bothered to fight for those without a voice – as long as our money is being channelled internally, they are more than satisfied. Mr Pohamba, your people have long cried and pleaded for their government to act, regardless of their political affiliations, be it Swapo, RDP, CoD, etc. How long will you and your government sit back and watch your people suffer, whilst benefits are ‘handed over’ to a few. Are these not the very people who trusted your judgment and character by electing you into power? Yet your government chooses to ignore their pleas on matters that are crippling to a nation such as ours. You have demonstrated your lack of consideration and instead continuously throw us ‘your take it or leave it’ attitude, which tells me that you and your government believe in authoritarian leadership instead of what we are supposed to be, a democratic state. No one worries much when things go right, but ask yourself if you would rather be faced with trying to fix a distraught, fed-up nation, or show strong leadership skills by taking action towards prosperity, equality, nation building whilst it is still early enough? I am sure that there are those who will advise you that this is just another letter from 1 out of thousands of angry citizen, but the more you give us your don’t care attitude the less respect and trust we will have in your capabilities of running this nation effectively.
