Fedics fail in first league tie

KEETMANSHOOP-based Fedics United’s first Premier League tie got off to a bad start when they lost 3-1 to Ramblers at the Keetmanshoop Showgrounds on Saturday.

Fedics’ lanky striker, Lotten ‘Ras’ Swartz, opened the scoreline with a brilliant header in the 10th minute after he beat the Ramblers goalie in 50/50 aerial ball. Swartz could have doubled Fedics’ tally in early minutes of the second half, but his shot went well over the bar.The premier league newcomers, who led 1-0 up to halftime, could not sustain the pressure from the more experienced Ramblers players. In the 73th minute, Ramblers striker Samson John scored an equaliser for his team when he capitalised on the slack defending by Fedics defenders.Ramblers’ new signing from Tigers, Nelson Akwenye, who came on as substitute, wasted a golden opportunity to put his team in the lead in 75th minute after his shot went wide.Another new signee from Tigers, Jeremia Baisako, put up his team 2-1 when he headed in a cross ball from the right wing.In the 90th minute, Pineas Jacobs sealed Ramblers’ victory after he scored a cracker from close range.Ramblers coach Tollie Van Wyk said Fedics gave his boys a good run for their win.Van Wyk said the heat and some technical errors played part in his team being led 1-0 in the first half.”We played long balls, but after half time we changed our strategy because since Fedics also played similar game,” Van Wyk said.Fedics coach Abdul Abrahams said the lack of concentration in the second half resulted in his team’s loss.”The team’s performance was great, but there is still room for improvement,” Abrahams said. The Namibian Sport yesterday reported that a match between Oshakati City and SKW was played at the Oshakati Independence Stadium – the match was in fact played at Tsumeb (Nomtsoub Stadium) after a change of venues a day before the match.Swartz could have doubled Fedics’ tally in early minutes of the second half, but his shot went well over the bar.The premier league newcomers, who led 1-0 up to halftime, could not sustain the pressure from the more experienced Ramblers players. The Namibian Sport yesterday reported that a match between Oshakati City and SKW was played at the Oshakati Independence Stadium – the match was in fact played at Tsumeb (Nomtsoub Stadium) after a change of venues a day before the match.
