A LOCAL and exclusive fashion documentary premiered in the capital on Saturday.
TV producer, creative director and founder of Waka Waka Moo and MTC Windhoek Fashion Week (WFW) Luis Tshita Munana, better known as Luis, in partnership with Standard Bank Namibia premiered ‘Zuriel’ at the Grove Mall’s Ster-Kinekor in Windhoek.
The premiere started with a blue carpet rolled out for guests to show off their creative and unique outfits.
Shortly before the documentary was screened, award-winning artist Lize Ehlers entertained the audience with an acoustic live performance.
The Zuriel clothing line was born in 2016, but was launched at last year’s WFW.
Munana on Saturday said it is an exclusive men’s and women’s clothing line which caters to all sizes and ages.
‘Zuriel’ means ‘God is my rock’ in Hebrew, he said.
The documentary showcases the brand’s story, Munana said.
“Viewers have the opportunity to see how the brand was formed, and how the models were selected. The people involved in the project are sharing their experiences about working on the brand and how they found working with me, and there is also a little about my history,” the former Big Brother Africa housemate representing Namibia in the ninth season, said.
He said the documentary required a lot of time, planning and patience.
“We needed a lot of people as different faces and voices were required to fulfil the film’s objective . . . I got the perfect platform to see Zuriel through other people’s eyes,” he said.
Munana said the brand’s slogan is ‘everybody deserves a piece of luxury’, because the items are pricey.
“I wanted something with good quality, even if it means someone has to pay about N$10 000 for a suit. I want people to feel comfortable, love the fabric and have something that lasts a very long time,” he said.
Magreth Mengo, Standard Bank Namibia’s head of marketing, communications and corporate social investment, said the aim of the new partnership was to help inspire a thinking nation.
“Standard Bank believes in driving art, and fashion is a part of it. Art gives positivity and inspires creative thinking. Munana has achieved a lot over the years, and we are proud to partner with his brand,” she said.
Munana said he plans to take his brand globally.
“Zuriel has been invited to showcase at the Milan Fashion Week in Italy. I am excited to showcase Namibia, because we don’t get a lot of such exposure. I am also hoping to dress a Hollywood celebrity one day,” he said.
