Fashion Blogging with Regina Kamukwanyama’s ‘Style Definition’

Regina Kaukwanyama loves two things more than anything else in this world – fashion and travel.

And the 29-year-old has taken those two things and created something special to document and share this love with the world. Since launching ‘Style Definition’ in 2016, she has been using the platform to inspire others. We spoke to her about what goes into making her blog as appealing and sustainable as possible.

I was born and bred at Rundu and spent my high school at St Boniface boarding school. I’ve been staying at Swakopmund for the last six years. I’m from a loving, large family of 12 children (six boys and six girls). I have a passion for fashion, travelling and meeting new people. I am very intrigued by the historical and cultural aspects the world has to offer; this is the main inspiration for my fashion and wardrobe senses. In my free time, I love sketching and doing fashion illustrations and styling friends and family members.

In Grade 4, my mother got me hipster frayed denim jeans. Let’s just say this was where my obsession for denim began. I loved it so much that I became an outfit repeater, just couldn’t go without it.

Blogging was something I never thought about until one day at an outing with friends and most raised the issue of how hard it is for them to find an outfit that looks good on them or comfortable for them and how they think I made it look easy and effortless. My blog is not just about fashion but it’s also one that serves as an inspiration that no matter what field or current situation one is in, that shouldn’t define you or stop you from going after something that makes your heart and soul sing.

I blog part-time as I have a full-time job as a geoscientist at the Rossing Uranium mine. Weekdays I get to concentrate on my job and other pressing matters and weekends I attend to the blog (photo shoots and content) and personal issues. I strive to put my best foot forward in everything I do and this setting allows balance in every aspect of my life.

The first step is finding an idea I want to write about and then do some research on it. Since I love blogging about fashion items, I would usually find one piece or item to blog about. It can either be something that’s trending at the moment, something I feel every woman needs to own or simply how it can be styled in different ways for different bodies. I would then do a photo shoot with an outfit that includes that key item.

The writing stage then follows. Whatever headline should be able to complement my website’s keywords. I then optimise the post for SEO using WordPress SEO by Yoast. After publishing, I remind my readers on social media to check it out.

I try to make the writing process as natural as I can and not feel forced as I would like my readers to be able to connect with me when they read my posts.

Blogging takes time and effort so create a blog based on something you are passionate about even when you are not getting paid. Most importantly, be you, do you and your tribe will find you.

Once your blog is set up, content is key. Focus on quality over quantity. Engage with your audience and gain more followers on social media by networking with people within your specific area.

A great pair of jeans, a blazer and a leather jacket. they simply never go out of style and can be incorporated in any outfit.
