Farmers head to the fields

THE northern regions received good rains this week, raising hopes of a decent mahangu harvest this year.

Several farmers were seen hard at work in their fields hoping to make the most out of the rain. Oshakati and surrounding areas were pounded by heavy rains on Wednesday.Oshana Regional Governor Clemence Kashuupulwa said his region had received very good rainfall.He said hopes were high that a good harvest was on the cards this year.”Even those who starting to plough now will eat,” said Kashuupulwa.However, the King of Uukwaluudhi, Josiah Shikongo Taapopi, said the heavy rain had made it impossible for people to cultivate their fields as the soil was too wet.Parts of the Oshakati State Hospital were also under water yesterday morning.Superintendent Dr Vizcaya Amutenya said some wards and nurses’ quarters at the hospital were flooded by water from drainage pipes.Oshakati and surrounding areas were pounded by heavy rains on Wednesday.
