Family felled by foul food

TEN of 12 people hospitalised in the North after sustaining food poisoning last weekend have been discharged.

Frieda Nghikembwa (76), from Etomba village in the Ohangwena Region, and her 11 grandchildren fell ill after eating a supper of beans and wild spinach on Saturday, November 4. They were taken to the Engela and Oshakati hospitals the next morning.Nghikembwa and four of her grandchildren were discharged from the Oshakati State Hospital on Friday.Five other children who were treated at the Engela hospital have also returned home.The remaining two children in hospital at Engela are said to be doing well and should be discharged soon.Nghikembwa’s daughter, Linda Lukolo, told The Namibian that the family had reported the incident to the Police, because they did not know what the source of the poisoning was.They were taken to the Engela and Oshakati hospitals the next morning.Nghikembwa and four of her grandchildren were discharged from the Oshakati State Hospital on Friday.Five other children who were treated at the Engela hospital have also returned home.The remaining two children in hospital at Engela are said to be doing well and should be discharged soon.Nghikembwa’s daughter, Linda Lukolo, told The Namibian that the family had reported the incident to the Police, because they did not know what the source of the poisoning was.
