Exam marking starts

EDUCATION minister Katrina Hanse-Himarwa officially opened the national examination marking sessions in Windhoek yesterday.

Encouraging the markers from all over Namibia, the minister told them that quality marking is centred on quality markers.

“Quality marking that produces reliable and valid outcomes is a cornerstone of a good examination system. Candidates and the nation at large must have full confidence in the marking process, and in you as markers,” Hanse-Himarwa said.

The deputy director at the Directorate of National Examinations and Assessment, Rauna Ndinoshiho, told The Namibian that although the official opening was only today, some of the markers have already started their duties a few weeks ago.

Markers were brought in to start marking as soon as the learners finished writing the respective subjects so that they do not only start marking when all the subjects have been written as this would require much more time.

“The markers are coming in group by group. The group which arrived on 24 October will be here until 4 November; then another group will come,” Ndinoshiho explained.

She said the deadline for all the marking to be completed is 13 December.
