‘God for us all and every man for himself’. We’ve all heard this saying.
It is both a fortunate and unfortunate statement, in my opinion. Unfortunate, because the reality is that people have become more greedy and selfish in their quest to be where they want to be. Many would step over people regardless of the harm and discontent it may cause in their lives.
There are plenty of terribly heartless and inconsiderate human beings who don’t give a damn about the next person, and that wouldn’t even blink at the sight of someone who needs their help, or who is suffering at the cost of their progress.
The fortunate part for me is the motivation and encouragement that lies behind this statement. It reiterates the reality that counting on people, and waiting on others to help you along the way, or lift you up, or take you along with them on the journey to greatness, is a dream and hope that is in all probability far-fetched.
Wake up!
Especially if you are waiting on someone else to take your hand in this day and age. Chances are, you will wait for a very long time.
There are those who still have a heart for people and are considerate towards the next human being. I salute you for being the light in this world made dark by all the greedy, selfish, inconsiderate, heartless and careless acts of the human race.
I have learned that counting on people is a recipe for failure. And I have also learned that expecting other people to care, love and look out for you, is a dream that can easily turn into a nightmare.
Disappointment is the order of the day when you hold on to others’ promises, and when you expect others to give you the good you deserve.
People disappoint.
Count yourself lucky if someone keeps their promise to you or uplifts you along the way. Appreciate it if you still have people like that in your life – they are rare.
I am blessed have a few people in my life who I know will always be there to catch me when I fall, and I am truly grateful for them.
I know what it feels like to be walked over and dropped like a hot potato by people who made me believe they care. I know what it feels like to be deeply disappointed and hurt, and also misused and mistreated.
I know what it feels like to be robbed of what is rightfully and deservingly yours and what it feels like to never get what you deserve.
Gents, I know what it feels like to go to bed in tears because you were unfairly treated and someone you truly counted on, let you down.
And to top it all off, they feel absolutely no remorse.
When I see how people hurt each other, and are out to rob and steal and kill instead of lift each other up, be there for one another and strive for peace among humanity, I begin to understand why God at some stage wanted to wipe out the human race.
God is a God of love and intends for us to live in that love. Not this nonsense this world is faced with today. His love remains for us regardless of our behaviour.
I am by no means perfect nor am I casting stones because Lord knows I have my flaws.
But I know this world could really do with more good people, especially great men of integrity.
I call on my fellow Namibian gents not to follow suit in being a disgrace to mankind in the way you treat others. I would also like to encourage you to see how far you can get without depending on the next person. Simply to avoid disappointment and the delay of your success.
I am not saying you must distrust everyone. Just move away from completely relying on other people. Build your own dreams.
Put your trust in God who will never disappoint you or hurt you, but wants to see you thrive and be a great success. He will uplift you when you call on and count on Him. He will give you wisdom when making decisions about who to trust. He will send the right people on your path to take your hand.
Till next time gents, cheers!
