… Windhoek Karneval and other March highlights
The year seems to be flying by. How are we almost in the middle of March, going to training, celebrating Irish holidays, learning how to better manage our lives and unwinding at our favourite spots like we always do? If you thought things were a bit quiet, I can confidently say we are in the thick of 2025 and there’s so much to do.
Today
This evening is the book launch for Loide Kali’s ‘A Widow Like You’ at the National Library from 17h00. Entry will cost N$450 at the door and the book is going for N$350. You can also have your copy signed.
This Weekend
On Friday, RuralRise Community Development is hosting a dialogue and documentary screening for the From The Ground Up initiative to empower rural youth for development. It will take place at the Mercure Hotel in Windhoek from 08h00 to 14h00. Entry is free to the public.
On Saturday, join in on the Lifestyle DIY Day at Megabuild Lifestyle in Windhoek. There will be a garden talk from 09h00 to 10h00, DIY demonstrations from 10h00 to 11h00, all about cooking from 12h00 to 13h00, live music by Vaughn Ahrens between 11h00 and 14h00, and an interior decor class from 14h00 to 15h00, with childrens’ craft classes running between 09h00 and 15h00. This is a day of inspiration, creativity and fun.
Blissful Psychology is hosting The Career Guidance Workshop, a counselling programme designed to help students choose careers that align with their interests, personalities and abilities. The workshop will take place this Saturday from 08h30 to 12h00 at 3777 Osler Street, Windhoek North, with an online option also available.
Celebrate St Patrick’s Day and World Pangolin Day with The Ells on 15 March at Eagles in Windhoek. Starting at 06h30, there will be a 5km run and walk, family fun activities between 09h00 and 14h00 and live music from 14h30. This pet friendly event will also include a silent auction and a costume contest. Tickets are N$100 in advance and N$75 for children under 18.
Jonno’s Bistro is going green for St Paddy’s Day on Saturday as they celebrate their 10th anniversary. There will be music, food and drinks from 18h00 and a prize for the person best dressed according to the theme.
Next Week
Agra ProVision is hosting a pig production course next Wednesday and Thursday at Tsumeb. The cost is N$1 700. More details will be provided upon registration.

The Speakeasy at Liliencron Street hosts ladies’ night every Wednesday, with 50% off all cocktails and meal options available.
Every Friday is Whiskey and Wines at Windhoek Sky Restaurant on the fourth floor of the Independence Memorial Museum from 17h30 to 19h30. Come through for a 20% discount on any whiskey and wine.
Beyond
The Family Thyme Conference in Windhoek will take place from 25 to 27 March at NG Kerk Suiderhof Hall, featuring inspirational and practical sessions for women, couples and parents in Afrikaans. The event, hosted by Gretha Wiid, kicks off on Tuesday with a session for women and girls, age 13 or older, titled: ‘You Are More Than Enough’. This will cost N$180 per person.
On Wednesday, a humorous and insightful talk, ‘Put the VA-VA-VOOM back in your marriage’, will offer practical relationship advice, with live music by Midlife. This will be N$30.
On the final day there will be a parenting session: ‘New Times, New Challenges’, aimed at helping parents understand and support their children, for N$180, with nursery care available.
Windhoek Karneval (Wika) is back at SKW and will include the Prunksitzung on 28 March, with doors opening at 18h30. Tickets are N$350.
On 29 March, the NBL Wika Beerfest will take place from noon, with tickets costing N$20 for children and N$50 for adults. On 4 April is the second International Evening from 19h30 for N$350. Tickets are available at the door.
