Eveline Street car wash facility open for renting

THE City of Windhoek has completed the construction of a new communal car wash facility in the Goreangab residential area’s popular Eveline Street to accommodate the hundreds of car washes established in that specific area.

The new facility was constructed at a cost of nearly N$1,9 million.The Windhoek City Council on Tuesday approved the rental fee structure for the new communal car wash, which will be an amount of N$193,30 per month for each bay, excluding water and electricity charges.According to official municipal documents obtained during the City Council’s meeting last Tuesday, the charges for water and electricity will be levied separately, based on the actual consumption at the site as per the approved applicable tariffs.The car wash facility provides for six separate washing bays, each with its own space for washing, drying, vacuum-cleaning, ablution and storage.Each washing bay will also have access to water and electricity points.The municipality said the Communal Car Wash Facility is a pilot project which would be replicated in other areas, depending on the success of this initial project.The naming of the car wash facility was referred to the Street and Place-Naming/Renaming Committee of the City of Windhoek.However, the two names that have so far been proposed by the city and the community of Goreagab are ‘Oshiwana Car Wash Facility’ and ‘Eveline Full Service Car Wash’.The construction of the car wash facility started in January 2011, and construction work was concluded in May this year.The construction of the facility became necessary after the municipality realised that the road surface in Eveline Street was suffering extreme damage due to the chemicals used by car washes. – Nampa
