Eros Security ‘Over The Top’

Eros Security ‘Over The Top’

AS a regular flying passenger from Eros Airport I want to add my support to the writer of the article in the August issue of World Air News about the security system at Eros Airport.

Security measures for local flights border on the absurd. Tourists on local charter flights are left bewildered, as they must take off their shoes, watches, etc to pass the metal detector.Nowhere in Southern Africa is this done to local travellers.Even passengers on private flights must go through this detector X-ray treatment. These rules are totally overboard and are detrimental to our tourist industry and very frustrating for passengers.Above all, it serves no purpose. The Namibia Airports Company can save tens of thousands of dollars if they fall in line with security as practiced at the smaller airports in the Republic of South Africa. When I travel for work I always take tools with me, including sharp screwdrivers. These always pass the X-ray without a question. Why in heaven’s name must it go through the machine then? At the same time I must take my watch and shoes off (and they must go through the machine). No logic, just rules that are enforced in a way that make Namibia much more of a police state now than it was before Independence. Can Namibia Airports Company not hold a public meeting in order to work out a more safe system?
