The police in the Erongo region have arrested two Namibian men in separate drug-related operations at Usakos and Swakopmund on Tuesday, leading to the recovery of cannabis valued at more than N$80 000.
At Usakos, a man (48) was arrested at farm Linksregs at about 12h50 after the police received information that he was cultivating cannabis at his residence.
An operation was conducted, resulting in the recovery of fresh cannabis plants weighing 5.87kg. The drugs are valued at N$58 700.
The suspect was charged under the Abuse of Dependence-Producing Substances and Rehabilitation Centres Act.
He is expected to appear in the Usakos Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
Later the same day, at around 16h45, police carried out another operation at Swakopmund, following information that a known drug dealer, who is currently out on bail, had resumed dealing in drugs.
The operation led to the arrest of a Namibian man (29).
The police recovered 450g of cannabis during the arrest, with an estimated value of N$22 500.
The suspect was also charged with dealing in cannabis.
He is expected to appear in the Swakopmund Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
Investigations are continuing.
Confirming the arrests, Serafine Kandjimi of the Community Policing Sub-Division in the Erongo region,said the operations were conducted after the police received information from members of the public.
She said the police appreciate the role played by communities in reporting criminal activities.
“We commend members of the public for providing information that led to the successful recovery of the drugs and the arrest of the suspects,” Kandjimi said.
