Erongo police bolstered with two new 4×4 bakkies

A local mine last Friday donated two new double-cab 4×4 bakkies valued at over N$1,2 million to the Namibian Police, boosting their operational capacity in the Erongo region.

QKR Navachab Gold Mine managing director George Botshiwe emphasised the mine’s commitment to the communities it operates in.

He also highlighted their ‘Golden Egg Project’, which empowers local entrepreneurs, as well as various other community initiatives, including supporting the construction of a mortuary and planning a medical facility.

“Safety is a top priority for us and we strive to ensure that our employees and community members are safe from harm. Our support for the Namibian Police is an extension of this commitment,” he said.

Botshiwe emphasised the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors.

He said Navachab has previously repaired police vehicles and sees this donation as a natural extension of their support.

Police inspector general Joseph Shikongo expressed his sincere gratitude to the mine, acknowledging the mounting challenges of fighting crime and the importance of police visibility.

“This donation is not just a gesture of generosity, it represents a deep commitment to the safety and security of our nation. The vehicles will significantly boost our ability to serve and protect the communities of Karibib,” he said.

Erongo governor Neville Andre acknowledged the region’s recent economic growth and the increasing need for effective law enforcement.
He said the vehicles will enhance police mobility and response times.

Karibib constituency councillor Melanie Ndjago hailed Navachab as a corporate social investment benefactor and praised their commitment to fighting crime.

She urged community members to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities.

Karibib mayor Davey van Wyk highlighted the importance of safety and security for attracting investors and ensuring community well-being.

He encouraged the police to utilise the vehicles effectively and urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement.
