THE two security guards who were recorded assaulting two customers at an Engen service station in Windhoek’s Hochland Park on Sunday, were arrested this morning.
Deputy police commissioner Edwin Kanguatjivi confirmed to The Namibian that the two were arrested, and are expected to appear in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court tomorrow morning.
The assault, which was recorded on CCTV and by other patrons on a smartphone, went viral on social media, and has attracted a police investigation.
The two security guards, Tobias Nambahu (25) and Thomas Nghilyeendele (26), who work for Dog Force Security Service, were suspended by the company following the incident.
Kanguatjivi said the victims, brothers Curtis Brandt and Genrei Schmidt, were admitted to hospital following the assault.
The two guards told The Namibian earlier this week that they were provoked by Brandt and Schmidt, who hurled insults at them and allegedly uttered swear words in relation to one of the guard’s mother, while belittling them as security guards. The confrontation allegedly started when one of the brothers, who walked into the shop with bleeding hands, was asked to leave because he attempted to wipe his blood-stained hands on store shelves. Both Nghilyeendele and Nambahu also said they were willing to be arrested because they had just been doing their jobs.
