Emvee K drops ‘Boujee Craft Mixtape’

VICTORINE Kaaronda is Emvee K – a fresh and fierce rapper who just dropped a body of work titled ‘Boujee Craft Mixtape’.With no label backing, the independent talent is doing things her way and putting herself out there in a personal way, which many might shy away from.

It’s all or nothing with this rapper and the new mixtape is a piece of history she’s imprinting on the music industry.

Emvee K has been into music from a young age, and was influenced by her father’s taste which included Bob Marley. Heading into the world of melodies and rhythms from age 12, she has since worked with producers such as Mr Glo, who helped boost her confidence in a world that seems to misunderstand her.

“Most black children grow up without a father and I just wanted to let people know that they’re not alone. I’ve been going through a lot of things like anxiety and insecurities,” the rapper said.

Although making feel-good music helped her, she realised she was putting on a persona and didn’t want to continue her career that way.

“I found the direction, but not my sound yet. I have worked with a lot of producers and artists, though. I had to take leadership and ownership.”

The nine-track project features La’More, Sway-Kid, Princelou, Lance Austin William, Himba Boii and Mega. Emvee K said she chose artists who were closely aligned to her style.

She may have established herself in the industry, but hate and discouragement have been hurdles to overcome. “In the beginning, people treated me differently. They always pick at female rappers. But I’m not trying to fit into the negative.”

With personal songs such as the Devitchi-produced ‘Daddy Issues’ and ‘Letter 2 Myself’, the artist allows fans to get to know her better.
