Being an avid listener of local music, I’m always excited to hear what new artists have in store, and Emikay Stable happens to be on that list.
With his first album billed with double CDs titled ‘Promise’ and ‘If The Future is Tomorrow, Destiny is God’, I overlook the spelling mistakes on the front cover and the complicated back cover, and I listen.
On the first CD, ‘Am I V.V.’ features a beat that overpowers Emikay’s voice. He hasn’t quite found his niche or immediate flow yet, so it’s going to take loads of practice before he can truly come out and say that he’s got the whole rap thing down.
Some of the tracks are similar, which doesn’t quite show off the creativity that Emikay was perhaps going for, which is quite a disappointment to the listener because nobody wants to hear the same song over again.
Sadly the lyrics are not as intellectually stimulating as they should be, but rather basic and confusing. If one was to ask what the theme of the album is, it would be difficult to explain.
The track titled ‘Ghosty Callin’ My’ strongly contradicts the lyrics which say “the Holy Ghost callin’ me” which makes one wonder, was there a mistake made in the title or is really supposed to be like that?
Unfortunately, the mastering was not done to a T, therefore the rapper’s words cannot be clearly heard.
Disc Two features J-Cee as the only featured artist on the album, and despite the desire to encourage and motivate his listeners, a number of the songs lack passion and enthusiasm.
Emikay Stable points out serious issues such as unnecessary killings in today’s society, but still doesn’t put this forward so that viewers can identify a message. A lot of repetition is used as well, probably to emphasise his points, though he can do much better.
With enough practice and without the desire to put an album out just for the sake of putting one out, Emikay Stable would have done better and made a perfect delivery to narrate the story of his life.
