THE Erongo Police arrested an elderly woman and confiscated 14,5 kg of dagga, with a street value of N$22 600, in two separate busts at Swakopmund and Walvis Bay on Tuesday.
The Erongo Police Chief, Deputy Commissioner Festus Shilongo, said the Police received a tip-off about drug deals at the two coastal towns, and took immediate action. In one of the busts, at Walvis Bay, the Police swooped on a house in Kuisebmond where six people were arrested for dealing in dagga. The person found in possession of the stash, valued at N$8 200, was a senior citizen in her 70s, according to Shilongo. In another bust, on Tuesday evening at Swakopmund, the suspects were allegedly caught red handed when the Police arrived, but managed to escape.”They recognised our Police vehicle and ran away, leaving the parcels of cannabis behind,” said Shilongo.”No arrest was made in the matter, but you can be sure we’re on their trail.”He said the value of this seizure was estimated at N$14 400, and that most of the dagga came from South Africa – “our main supplier”.In one of the busts, at Walvis Bay, the Police swooped on a house in Kuisebmond where six people were arrested for dealing in dagga. The person found in possession of the stash, valued at N$8 200, was a senior citizen in her 70s, according to Shilongo. In another bust, on Tuesday evening at Swakopmund, the suspects were allegedly caught red handed when the Police arrived, but managed to escape.”They recognised our Police vehicle and ran away, leaving the parcels of cannabis behind,” said Shilongo.”No arrest was made in the matter, but you can be sure we’re on their trail.”He said the value of this seizure was estimated at N$14 400, and that most of the dagga came from South Africa – “our main supplier”.
