A 68-year-old man has married a 78-year-old woman to become one of the oldest couples ever to tie the knot in the Immanuel Lutheran Congregation at Keetmanshoop.
Gert Coetzee and Sara Dawids were married on Saturday. The ceremony was conducted by the ELCRN church’s Dean for the Keetmanshoop Circuit, Simon Petrus Tiboth. The couple met some years ago following the death of Sara’s first husband, but cannot recall the exact date or place.Only death will part them, said the new Mrs Coetzee.”Gert is the one who will be responsible for my burial when I die since I do not have any family,” she told The Namibian.According to Sara she had two sons but both have passed away.Gert said they decided to tie the knot because people were gossiping too much about them living together.According to Gert, he takes care of all the domestic chores because Sara is visually impaired.”I love my wife, and her blindness is no problem for me at all,” he said.
