The eighth leg of the national motocross (MX) competition at Swakopmund was recently held in cold, windy conditions, while injuries were part of the game.
Ten classes entered, including a women’s class.
“Despite the weather conditions, the race was not bad, as 54 entries were received for this leg,” Ingo Waldschmidt said after the event.
He said the brand new organisers did a splendid job despite being thrown in at the deep end.
There were several injuries due the fast track. Rider Tommie Gouws broke his collar bone after a bad fall, while two other riders sustained serious injuries.
“The track is extremely fast, and we had discussions to make it a bit slower by adding more obstacles,” Waldschmidt said.
The race was most likely one of the best-attended of the year, he said.
One class which drew considerable interest was the 85cc with 10 riders, compared to the usual three.
The results are as follows:
Women’s class: Zoe Waldschmidt (first), Ronja Friederich (second) and Maronique Kruger (third).
