EES takes Namibia to German talent show

EES

Namibian artist EES, real name Eric Sell, will perform in the 15th season of ‘The Voice of Germany’, showcasing his music and national pride on an international stage.

The artist’s first performance is set to air on 26 September.

The long-running German reality talent show, which was launched in 2011, is one of Germany’s biggest entertainment platforms.

EES, who has steadily grown his career in Germany, says being invited to take part this year is both exciting and professionally rewarding.

“This is one of the biggest shows in Germany. It was live and I liked that a lot. The quality was excellent. Everything was very professional. I have learnt a lot,” he says.

Despite his international recognition, EES emphasises his commitment to representing Namibia.

In his debut performance, he wore Namibian flag-inspired shoes (‘Nam Flava Chucks’) and a large yellow chain shaped like Namibia.

“I had the platform to showcase my love for music. I do enjoy representing Namibia. Representing my country always makes me proud and gives me confidence,” he says.

The artist encourages others to seize similar opportunities, noting that visibility is crucial for growth.

“Use bigger platforms to showcase your music. Shows like these are great platforms for you to challenge yourself. It is where you get to meet other creatives,” he says, adding that marketing remains essential no matter how talented an artist may be.

While the exposure was invaluable, EES admits that performing cover songs posed a challenge.

“I really don’t like to perform cover songs at all. I do struggle with it, but I did it and the public, especially Namibians, will enjoy me on the show,” he says.

EES has also been documenting his journey offstage, with behind-the-scenes footage available on his YouTube channel.

He says he is currently working on his 16th studio album, set for release in 2026. The project will feature a fusion of kwaito and amapiano music, he says.

The first single from the album, ‘Manuva’, is scheduled for release on 3 October.

“‘Manuva’ is a kwaito and amapiano-fused party song. So far, I’m enjoying working on the album, and I’m looking forward to sharing it with everyone,” he says.

Through both his international performances and new music, EES says he continues to balance his growing global presence with his commitment to showcasing Namibian culture on some of the world’s biggest stages.
