Better known as EES, the Namibian-German musician and entrepreneur believes the release of Nam Flava Biltong in Germany is ideal as this is where his fan base is growing steadily. The initiative adds to the EES's vision to push Namibian culture and lifestyle overseas.“I teamed up with the company, South Trade GmbH, in Germany who work with Külbs Steaks that have done all the prework to export biltong to the European Union (EU). “Last September, I launched my new biltong brand in Europe. It took over two years to get all certificates and regulations sorted to import Namibian produced biltong into the EU. Currently we are the only ones that have the certificates to do that, which makes us really proud. Exporting processed products is a way better income for Namibia than just always exporting the raw materials/resources and having them processed outside the country,” he said.EES touts biltong as a unique and healthy in-between snack. “I grew up eating biltong all my life, even during my first years overseas I always asked my parents to send me biltong, to remind me of home. “Now I know it's something special that we have in Namibia that we can actually share with the rest of the world,” he said.Currently, Nam Flava Biltong only comes in one flavour, which is a strategic decision considering the shelf-life of the product, and how too many flavours can end up competing against each other. “Nam Flava Biltong is mainly being sold in Germany and surrounding countries. We have shipped it all over the world via postal delivery, even as far as America and Australia. “In Namibia, it's available at selected souvenir shops like The Made in Namibia Collection,” he said.EES was inspired by the need to do something different. He wanted to step out of his comfort zone, he said of his entrepreneurial efforts. Nam Flava Biltong now joins Nam Flava Spice, Nam Flava Plakkies, Nam Flava Face Masks and Wuma Vitamin Energy Drink under EES' stable. He believes key to boosting the economy is exporting more products, rather than importing them, which has become the norm in Namibia. “We need to team up. No one can just do these big stunts alone. It's always good to team up with a partner who specialises in what they do, so that each party can focus on doing what they do best,” he said.Despite numerous challenges along the way, more people have become involved in the initiative and so far, the public interest has been positive, he said. “The people were a little careful in the beginning, sometimes only ordering one packet but soon after trying it, they ordered a lot more. “We usually sell out all stock even before the new stock arrives from Namibia. We even have clients in Germany now that buy the Nam Flava Biltong on a monthly basis via a subscription-based system. So, they don't have to manually order each month, they just automatically receive it.” EES' supporters can look forward to new songs and music videos coming soon, he said. “I have been busy the last two weeks with a new song featuring Top Cheri, shooting the music video in the desert nearby Swakopmund. This will be my official World Cup 2022 song and my main push for this will be in the European/German market.”
